Weekend in Seattle!

I have been wanting to visit Seattle for the longest time and I finally get to go for the first time! Although we’re staying about 60 miles outside of the city, our flight lands in Seattle early tomorrow afternoon so we’re able to spend all afternoon and evening Friday sightseeing in the city.

Although there are tons of fun things to do in Seattle (especially this time of year!), we only have time for a limited amount of sightseeing, so we narrowed down a list of things to do and places to see while we’re in town:

* The Space Needle: I’m sure this is highly over-rated, but it’s such an iconic landmark, that I have to have a picture for posterity. If this were an SAT test, I would say The Space Needle : Seattle as The Eiffel Tower : France. It’s just a must-see. Perhaps we’ll pop in for a meal at SkyCity.

* Pike Place Market :: Craftspeople, shops, street performers, musicians… the idea of it vaguely reminds me of San Francisco or of London, where street performers dot the streets. It’s referred to as the ‘granddaddy of farmer’s markets.’ That’s enough to entice me!

* The Seattle Waterfront :: There’s something about the idea of the shops, the attractions and the seagulls that evokes a quintessential image of Seattle. Although this takes third place to Pike Place Market and the Space Needle, I would definitely like to drop in, if time permits.

I’m sure that the zoo and the aquariam are worth seeing, too, but as I have been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the San Diego Zoo, I feel like whatever Seattle may offer in these arenas can’t really compete.

Anyone have must-see spots to check out while we’re perusing the streets of Seattle?
